Will cold drawn tube corrode hydrogen sulfide gas?
Apr 27, 2018

Cold drawn and extricating tubes are a mixture of carbon and some iron, zinc and some iron elements. Cold drawn tubes are very bright after processing, but because of some The reason is that cold drawing and extubating is very easy to react with gases in the air to cause corrosion. Such a gas is hydrogen sulfide. Let's take a look at this gas first.

Hydrogen sulfide is an inorganic compound whose chemical formula is H2S. Under normal circumstances, it is a colorless, flammable acid gas, with a bad odor when the concentration is low, smell like a smelly egg, but no odor when the concentration is high (because high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can paralyze the olfactory nerve). It is soluble in water and can dissolve about 2.6 moles of hydrogen sulfide in 1 mole of water at 0°C. The aqueous solution of hydrogen sulfide called hydrogen sulfate is a weak acid. When it is heated, hydrogen sulfide escapes from the water. Hydrogen sulphide is an acute and acute poison, inhaling small amounts of high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can be fatal in a short time. Low concentrations of hydrogen sulfide have effects on the eye, respiratory system, and central nervous system, and hydrogen sulfide does not corrode normal cold-drawn tubes.

Therefore, there is a certain standard for the technical requirements of cold-drawn and exquisitely drawn tubes. Let's look at how the state regulates this technology:

The technical requirements for cold drawing and extricating pipes shall be implemented in accordance with SINOPEC Anti-H2S Carbon Steel Seamless Pipe (GB) Technical Conditions, and satisfy the following conditions at the same time: (1) The yield strength σ5 specified in the material standard is less than or equal to 355 MPa. (2) The measured tensile strength σb of the material is less than or equal to 630 MPa. (3) The applicable state of the material should be normalizing or normalizing + tempering. (4) Low carbon steel, carbon equivalent CE should be less than or equal to 0.4%.
